Maracas Lontar

Of all our musical instruments this is the prettiest! A gorgeous hand made hoop with a variety of nuts and pods to make beautiful sounds, it could nearly be worn as a neck ornament. It also makes a lovely talking piece and tabletop decoration.

The Maracas Lontar is a percussion instrument known as an idiophone, meaning it makes sounds by being shaken and jiggled.

These simply made instruments are sometimes made to be attached to the ankles of dancers to make sounds during ceremonial dances.
They are easy for small hands to hold while encouraging rhythm, counting and having fun.
